Meet the Director for the Latinx Resource Center: Adelí Durón Adelí was the founding Director for Veteran Services Center and helped launch and grow the Center this past decade. Some highlights of the success of Adelí as a leader and Director includes increasing staffing, securing grants related to the Warrior-Scholar Summer Program, student scholarships, elevating the accomplishments of veterans with the Veteran Appreciation Dinner, and establishing UCI as the Convener for the Orange County Veteran & Military Families Collaborative.
In addition to her work as the Director of the Veteran Services Center, Adelí has over ten years of leadership and mentorship in the Chicano/Latino Staff Association (CLSA), and has served as co-chair of the Latinx Resource Center Advisory Board and as a founding committee member for the Latino Excellence Achievement Dinner.
Mesa Unida, the umbrella organization of Latinx-serving organizations at UC Irvine, is advocating for the establishment of a Latinx Student Resource Center at UC Irvine.
The purpose of the center is to demonstrate the UCI’s commitment towards providing a superior education to every student, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, citizenship or immigration status, and despite their financial, social, academic, and political challenges. A centralized Latinx Resource Center will allow for the creation of a space that empowers and supports Latinx students to achieve higher education by equipping them with the tools and resources they need to make the most out of their university experience, as well as to develop professionally, academically, and personally.
