NEW MU Advisor

Jordie Conde
Hi. My name is Jordie Conde and I will serve as advisor to Mesa Unida for the 2019/2020 year. I currently work at UC Irvine as an Admissions Counselor for the Office of Admissions on the High School Outreach side where I enjoy talking and presenting to prospective students and families about UCI and what it means to be an Anteater. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz, class of 2018 with double majors in Politics & Latin American and Latinx Studies and prior to that, attended Cerritos College before transferring to UCSC.

As a fellow undocumented student and the first in my family to graduate from college, I aim to help students of color and from underrepresented communities face the difficulties of navigating higher education and be a resource to them. It is my goal to pursue a graduate degree in the future and to continue working in Student Affairs at the university level. Having organized Raices de UCI (an overnight admissions program for newly admitted students) this past April, I got acquainted with the Latinx community at Irvine and want further build relationships and connections with students and faculty/staff. My goal as advisor for Mesa Unida is to provide support and mentorship to MU in whatever form that may take, to serve as a resource for the Latinx community at UCI, and to promote retention and graduation among students. I look forward to this exciting year Anteaters.

DEADLINE February 8th, 2020

WHAT'S NEW THIS YEAR?

New Year. New Faces. Same Mission. As we go into another year of serving the Latinx community at UCI, Mesa Unida has undergone some changes. We have new faces in each of the executive board positions, as well as renovated our website, and expanded our presence on social media. We have launched a new weekly e-newsletter to keep everyone up to date, and an interactive campaign to give Latinx Anteaters a voice. Despite all these changes, Mesa Unida's focus still remains on the Latinx culture at UCI.

WHAT IS LATINX?

For Mesa Unida purposes, Latinx refers to those who trace their family origins to countries in Latin America and parts of the Caribbean. The “x” includes all identities on the gender spectrum: male, female, trans-gender non conforming, etc. Mesa Unida aims to represent and engage all students who self identify as Latinx. As well as connect with non-Latinx students who embody the Mesa Unida mission statement.
